Testimonials

Three years ago I contacted Ramona about a short course of harp lessons; my daughter just wanted to ‘have a go’ but we’ve never looked back. Ramona is a wonderful, supportive and talented music teacher. She has helped to broaden my daughter’s musical interests, supported her successful applications to the Clarsach Society for Harp Scholarships and played an important part in my daughter’s musical education. Living in lockdown hasn’t changed this. Online lessons, using Google Duo on a smartphone have been really effective. My daughter recently achieved a merit in her grade 3 harp exam and  is now working towards Grade 5. She will be starting a music degree at   university in September.  I highly recommend Ramona to anyone who would like music lessons, whether online or in person. Donna - Herne Bay, Kent, UK

I have been having regular harp lessons with Ramona for the past ten years. Ramona is an incredibly patient teacher. She is thorough with her lesson planning and excellent at explaining how the instrument works and how best to play it. If I am sometimes late for a lesson due to traffic Ramona will always, where she can, run over into her own time to allow me to have a full lesson. It is inspirational hearing her play the harp. I hope one day to have as much skill and talent with the instrument as she does.Winnie - London, UK

I hope others have the opportunity to find out what a talented teacher as well as performer you are! I find your light-hearted patience a great encouragement in my study of music theory and of playing the harp. As you know I learn for fun and relaxation from a busy and at times stressful job in the NHS and as an adult learning a new skill it is a very different thing from studying when you are a child. I appreciate your flexibility both in terms of practical things like adjusting to work rotas and also to finding and trying a broad range of types and styles of music to look at. I am enjoying the "virtual" lessons we are doing at the moment and I think they work very well. Google Duo enables us to meet without having to travel great distances and is a good way for hopefully more remote players to have lessons. Sally - Kent, UK

Learning to play the harp is a ‘later life project’ for me. Ramona has been excellent in understanding and supporting my learning to help me achieve a reasonable level of skill on this amazing instrument. Adaptability is everything and we have been able to continue our sessions online during lockdown. May well continue in this way as it is working so well!Sue R - Kent, UK

She’s very good at teaching and making lessons fun. Vale - Kent, UK

Vale always looks forward to her next lesson with Ramona, and has been inspired by Ramona's encouragement and enthusiasm to keep practising. Ramona is an engaging and attentive teacher, with a natural sense of humour and sympathy for her students. The transition to online lessons has gone very smoothly, thanks to Ramona's attention to detail and her understanding of how to adjust to this way of teaching. Sarn (Vale's Father) - Kent, UK

I would like to thank Ramona for being such a great harp teacher for the 11 years that I have been one of her students. She has been patient and friendly and always manages to make the lessons fun and creative. I have thoroughly enjoyed my lessons and having such a brilliant teacher who I can approach as a friend has been amazing. xxOlive - Kent, UK

As an adult learner I have taken up the harp as a hobby after many years of not playing music. My fortnightly online lessons with Ramona are relaxed and fun during which she enables me to develop at my own pace, displaying infinite levels of patience and encouragement.  She has even indulged my passion for 80’s power ballads, suggesting additional pieces that she thinks I will enjoy.  I have found online lessons to be very convenient, due to being in full time work, and this option reduces the need to diary in additional time for travel to and from lessons. Zoe - Kent, UK

As a life long (now retired) music teacher it was always my wish to learn the Celtic harp, but the main problem for me was always the lack of teachers in Kent…..!

Undeterred, even though I was starting to suffer from arthritis in my fingers, I purchased my harp some 15 years ago and started lessons with a classical harpist which sadly didn’t work out as they were very focussed on finger technique which has always been an issue for me!!

I subsequently considered selling my harp but deep down knew that I didn’t want to, as there MUST be somebody out there who would be willing to teach me..... By chance one day I was passing a music shop in Canterbury and saw Ramona’s poster and the rest, as they say, is history. She agreed to try and teach me in spite of my now very dodgy fingers.... in fact she even admitted to being ‘somewhat nervous’ as she had not taught another music teacher before!!  She needn’t have worried as we got on brilliantly from the moment we first met and she played and loved ‘my kind of music’ - Celtic!

We bounce ideas off each other and always have a light hearted fun filled lesson where we get around any fingering problems that I often have.

Switching to online lessons felt a bit daunting for an “oldie” like me to begin with but I have easily adapted and we have just as much fun as when we are in the same room.

I’m so glad that I followed my instinct and didn’t sell my beloved harp....  Pam Wigmore - Kent, UK
